Egnineer from the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation have developed a "super fire extinguisher". It contains a "magic liquid" that can put out fires in less time than traditional fire-fighting apparatus.
In Zhangjiakou, a city near Beijing, super fire extinguishers were installed on public transport in time for the Winter Olympics. As one of the main competition venues, this is a key location where athletes and spectators needs to travel to and from. The super fire extinguisher is not limited for use on buses and trains, but also homes and public venues including museums where cultural artifacts must be carefully protected. The liquid is perfluoro, a chemical compound that is resistant to reaction with other substances and used in fighting electrical fires. It evaporates quickly on contact. In fact, the higher the temperature, the faster it vaporizes… making it very useful for fire extinguishing. Chinese researchers discovered this compound many years ago. But the technology is costly and relatively rare internationally. Researchers have since improved the compound by synthesizing perfluoro from ore. Now in mass production, it is being applied to more hazardous conditions for a variety of uses and events.
